I'm about to discuss the chemicals Jimmy may have inhaled while serving in the Gulf War. The headline above alludes to Saddam Hussein's favorite chemical warfare agent, but it's also directly quoting the name of a song by Skinny Puppy.
This song played among the many other tunes I spun as a deejay at the campus radio station of Macalester College. I learned of the war second hand because my head was in the clouds, and I remember hearing about the bombing of Israel because the news literally shut down the student government meeting I'd been participating in at the time.
My first exposure to the term "VX gas" was that Skinny Puppy song, but it wasn't until a good decade-and-a-half later that I came to understand what that toxin did, let alone realize that vestiges of the chemical might have been floating in the air Jimmy breathed. The next post will explain.
