Jimmy recalled that when his Navy ship pulled out of the port of Bangkok, one of the officers announced over the loudspeakers that 75% of Thailand has HIV.A collective howl of "oh shit" could be heard across the SS Samuel Gompers.
But not from Jimmy, who smiled and thanked the stars he was monogamous. His shipmates used to tease him about having a "Ready Mix family" because of his relationship with Camille, who had a kid. The joke was on all the teasers who didn't have Ready Mixes but instead patronized Thai entrepreneurs.
